[Business] Plant-Based Food Sales In US Exceeded $7 Billion In 2020

'Almost 40 percent of households now have plant-based milk in their fridge' Plant-based food sales in the US retail sector grew by 27 percent in 2020, and exceeded $7 billion. The data*, commissioned by the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) and The Good Food Institute (GFI), was published today.   Plant-based food sales It found the plant-based food market grew almost twice as fast as the total US retail food market. Which, increased 15 percent in 2020 due to COVID-19 shutting down restaurants. [Plant-Based Tech] Oxford University Student Creates Leather from Columbian Fique Plant

  Gabriel Moreno created the sustainable vegan material from the fique plant as an alternative to environmentally damaging plastics and synthetic leather. Oxford University postgraduate student Gabriel Moreno recently created vegan leather made from the Columbian Fique plant and natural rubber latex.  The material is part of eco-friendly textile company Fiquetex , founded by Moreno and his father, Alex. Fiquetex produces 100-percent sustainable, biodegradable, and renewable fabric and leather products from the Columbian plant. The father-and-son team spent five years researching and designing their Fique fabrics in an effort to create a fully sustainable textile alternative to environmentally damaging materials such as plastic and synthetic leather.  Their Fique fabrics use just 10 percent of the energy required to make the same amount of nylon. Its unique circular economy process also means the material will biodegrade in just 100 days after being buried in the ground once its useful

The Chilean food company creates plant-based substitutes of milk, meat, and mayonnaise using AI to ‘optimize flavor and texture’. Fast Company also crowned NotCO the most innovative Latin American company of 2021 for bringing its plant-based products ‘to the masses’.
