If you’re eating a gluten-free diet, you may have noticed that many of the foods are already plant-based: fruits, nuts, seeds, vegetables, and legumes. So if you are looking to adopt a gluten-free vegan diet, there are many foods to choose from. Let’s start with the basics. Gluten is the name of the proteins that are found in several grains: wheat, rye, barley, and a rye/barley hybrid called triticale. Grains that contain wheat include whole wheat, bulgar, farro, farina, spelt, graham, durum, bromated flour (flour treated with potassium bromate), kamut (Khorasan wheat), and wheat berries. Wheat, rye, and barley are found in pastas, breads, and cereals, while barley is found in malt, food coloring, and brewer’s yeast. On a gluten-free diet, you also cannot eat couscous, which is made from semolina (durum wheat). Most of the population can consume

'At no point in his presidency has Biden suggested policies aimed at limiting red meat consumption' Credit: Lisa Ferdinando Fact-checking site Snopes.com has debunked a claim surrounding POTUS Joe Biden . The politician recently pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030. However, the announcement resulted in The Daily Mail running a story saying the climate plan could hypothetically result in US citizens only being entitled to one burger a month. [Health] How Smoking in 1959 Is Like Eating Now

Dr. Greger: ''In this video, I try to answer the question that arises in the minds of pretty much anyone dipping even a single toe into the lifestyle medicine literature: “Wait a second. If this were true, why didn’t my doctor tell me?” If, for example, our number-one killer can be reversed through diet, why isn’t it front-page news and taught to every medical student, broadcast from every mountaintop by medical organizations, and featured in our government dietary guidelines? Still confused? Go here Given that diet is the number-one cause of death and disability, nutrition is surely the number-one subject taught in medical school, right? And it’s certainly the number-one issue your doctor talks with you about, right? If only.   How can there be such a disconnect between the available evidence and the practice of medicine?

[Opinion] ‘Buying back’ the Amazon with meat alternatives

Future Farm’s Pedro Zuim explains why he believes meat alternatives will save the world . There’s a growing appetite of people turning to meat substitutes driven by a multitude of factors, including animal welfare, health and environmental concerns. Right now – more so than ever before – our planet needs us, and for the most part, we can all help. The simplest and most accessible way we can contribute is meatless alternatives. Meat-free manufacturers have started to recognise this and create a new generation of plant-based ‘meat’ that tap into those senses. These products have all the seeming indulgence of meat but with a much lower environmental impact... Continue...
