What happens when vegans and meat-eaters read internet comments criticizing the other's lifestyle to each other?

  In this third opinion piece as part of our Wellbeing & Veganism research programme, Researcher Network member, Summer Philips , considers the link between nature, animals, happiness, and wellbeing. If humans could purr, one would imagine they would do so frequently. We are tactile and emotional animals and experiencing happiness and pleasure are favourite pastimes. We don’t need detailed scientific studies to be able to acknowledge the feelings we experience when we are emotionally uplifted, however, the scientific theory is interesting. Evolutionary theories suggest that humans didn’t evolve into their current physical form and then have emotion conveniently dropped in, but that emotion has evolved with us on our journey to where we currently stand. (As an aside I would like to note that we stand on a branch of the evolutionary tree and certainly not at the top of it! I would suggest reading Frans De Waal [1] for more on what he terms ‘antropodenial’.) Have you ever spent time

   Shockingly, Unnatural Vegan uploaded a video, stating that 'Seaspiracy kinda sucks'.  I'm shocked.  Baffled.  Oof, never saw it coming. Amazingly, actually break down her review of Seaspiracy and you find that she believes it sucks fundamentally because it made her feel 'icky'. This is apparently the face of level-headed review.

   Dr. Danielle Belardo is the Director of Cardiology, and Co-Director of Research and Education, at IOPBM in Newport Beach California.  She is also a proud vegan, but that alone has not stopped vegan twitter from ridiculing her for various beliefs and practices she holds surrounding plant-based diets.  I sat down with Dr. Belardo to discuss why she receives so much hate from vegans online, where she actually stands on being a vegan vs. what she recommends for her patients, and various ways you can improve the health of your heart.  There are some really hot takes in here, particularly around being vegan and receiving vaccines that were tested on animals, cholesterol and saturated fats in eggs, and universal benefits of plant-based diets.
