Most of the top vegan news sites are (nearly) all about plant based foods with few stories about veganism itself. Why is that?
Don't get me wrong, we vegans need to know about great recipes and all about meat substitutes. We even like to know how are favorite celebrities are getting along in their vegan life and what companies they are supporting and investing in. But isn't our first job as vegans to promote and advocate for veganism?Veganism isn't about diet
The Vegan Society: ''Preventing the exploitation of animals is not the only reason for becoming vegan, but for many it remains the key factor in their decision to go vegan and stay vegan. Having emotional attachments with animals may form part of that reason, while many believe that all sentient creatures have a right to life and freedom. Specifics aside, avoiding animal products is one of the most obvious ways you can take a stand against animal cruelty and animal exploitation everywhere. A more detailed overview on why being vegan demonstrates true compassion for animals can be found here.''The prevention of the exploitation of animals is the number one job of every vegan. A close second is the environment. What we eat is important (because we need good health, to do more good works!) but it can not be the primary focus of our PR.
When a non-vegan visits any one of these vegan news sites the impressions they come away with are negative or at best neutral.
We must focus on positive activism, highlighting ethics and moral values to break through the illusion and delusion of carnism, otherwise we'll end up in a gluttonous echo chamber with TRILLIONS of animals still suffering at humanity's hands.
Oh, I also most forgot to tell you why all of the top vegan news sites are mostly about food and other vegan products: Money, and money talks.
Capitalism is unsustainable, and unsustainability is the enemy of the Earth, the life it provides and shelters.
