Honoring Animal Moms: A Vegan Perspective on Mother's Day

''Join us in extending love and gratitude to all mothers, human and animal, on Mother's Day by celebrating the interconnectedness of motherhood." The Vegan Project Global Mother's Day is a cherished occasion that celebrates the unconditional love and dedication of mothers around the world. As more people embrace a vegan lifestyle, it is essential to extend this celebration to include the remarkable animal moms who play vital roles in our ecosystem. By recognizing and honoring their contributions, vegans can highlight the interconnectedness of all beings and promote compassion towards non-human mothers. Acknowledging Animal Maternal Bonds : In the animal kingdom, maternal bonds are fundamental to the survival and well-being of various species. Whether it's the nurturing behavior of elephants, the protective instincts of lionesses, or the remarkable migration patterns of mother whales, animal moms exemplify selflessness and sacrifice. By celebrating these anima

Why Animal Rights Matter: The Ethics of Veganism vs. Carnism

"The ethical argument for veganism is based on the belief that animals have the right to live free from harm and exploitation. Veganism seeks to minimize the suffering of animals and promote a more compassionate and sustainable world." Michael Corthell The decision to go vegan or continue consuming animal products is not just a matter of personal preference; it has far-reaching consequences for animal welfare, human health, and the environment. While veganism is based on the belief that animals have the right to live free from harm and exploitation, carnism is a belief system that justifies the use of animals for human purposes. In this article, we will explore the ethics of veganism vs. carnism and why animal rights matter. Understanding Carnism Carnism is a belief system that seeks to justify the consumption of animal products. It is based on the assumption that it is natural, normal, and necessary to eat animals and that vegans are depriving themselves of essential nutr

Why is Eating Animals a Problem?

by The Vegan Project There are several ethical, environmental, and health-related concerns associated with eating animals: Ethical concerns: Many people believe that it is wrong to kill and eat animals, as they are sentient beings capable of experiencing pain and suffering. This is particularly true for factory-farmed animals, which are often raised in cramped and inhumane conditions before being slaughtered. Environmental concerns: Animal agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, water pollution, and other environmental problems. Livestock requires vast amounts of land, water, and feed, and the production and transportation of animal products are energy-intensive processes that generate significant amounts of greenhouse gases. Health concerns: Eating a diet that is high in animal products has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and several types of cancer. This is because animal products tend to be high

[Animal Rights] Animal Exploitation explained: what it is and why it's wrong!

What is animal exploitation? Is it wrong to use animals even if they are treated well? Why are vegans against all animal use?  Why is all animal use inherently problematic, and exactly what animal exploitation is/why it's the root issue if we really want to stop all animal abuse and cruelty!

[Carnism] Love Some, Eat Some

A sure way to judge someone's heart and soul is by observing their treatment of not just some animals, but of all animals...and all creation for that matter. The Village Vegan  Love of animals is a universal impulse, a common ground on which all of us may meet. By loving and understanding animals, perhaps we humans shall come to understand each other. [Animal Rights] Draw My Life: Laboratory Mice

In this "Draw My Life" video, we hear the story of Martin, a mouse trapped in an animal testing laboratory. Martin's family is broken apart as they are taken one by one and used for various tests.  Every year, millions of mice, rats, rabbits, primates, cats, dogs and other animals are locked inside barren cages across the country.  They languish in pain, suffer from extreme frustration, ache with loneliness, and long to be free. Many of these tests are funded by taxpayer dollars.

[Wildlife] Mini Hotels, Bus Shelters, and 5 Other Initiatives Saving the Bees

The Netherlands is saving bees with insect hotels and pollinator-friendly bus stops known as "bee stops." The city of Utrecht, Netherlands is saving bees with a huge insect hotel.  The project consists of more than 200 individual nesting boxes for wild bees and other essential pollinators. The bee homes cover a 28 meter-high billboard tower on the side of the A2 motorway — one of the busiest highways in the country. Because wild bees search for pollen and nectar within 200 meters of their nesting site, the city of Utrecht also planted a 7,000 m2 meadow of wildflowers nearby, complete with sand and hills for native ground-nesting populations such as plasterer or “silk” bees. Wildflower meadows provide a huge boost to pollinators of all kinds, and road and railway sidings in general have proven important breaks in pervasive agricultural landscapes. They offer unique and biodiverse ecosystem services to local wildlife and frequently make constructive use of previously underut

[Animal Rights] Belgian animal rights group calls for no more experiments on dogs or cats

Belgium’s animal rights group GAIA is lobbying the three ministers in charge of animal welfare to ask that no more authorizations be granted for experiments on healthy dogs and cats that are knowingly made ill, it said in a communication published on Friday. GAIA, which stands for Global Action in the Interest of Animals, describes itself as an organization that “unites defenders of animal welfare and advocates for animal rights in Belgium.” The association conducted a survey in 2019 on the use of laboratory animals in Belgium and estimates that 1,302 experiments were carried out on 542 dogs, all of the Beagle breed. The majority of these were in Flanders, with 1,286 experiments on 526 animals. Last week they launched a satirical campaign calling for beagle owners to bring their dogs to laboratory testing centers to combat an urgent need for test animals, and today they’ve launched a new website focused on raising awareness of (and eventually ending) the use of animals as test subj

[Animal Rights] The guards caring for Chernobyl's abandoned dogs

The descendants of pets abandoned by those fleeing the Chernobyl disaster are now striking up a curious relationship with humans charged with guarding the contaminated area. It wasn't long after he arrived in the irradiated landscape of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone that Bogdan realized his new job came with some unexpected companions. From his first days as a checkpoint guard in Chernobyl, he has shared the place with a pack of dogs. Bogdan (not his real name) is now in his second year of working in the zone and has got to know the dogs well. Some have names, some don't. Some stay nearby, others remain detached – they come and go as they please. Bogdan and the other guards feed them, offer them shelter, and occasionally give them medical care. They bury them when they die. All the dogs are, in a sense, refugees of the 1986 disaster in which Reactor No. 4 at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant exploded. In the aftermath, tens of thousands of people were evacuated from the Ukrainia

[Animal Welfare Ethics] What's the Difference Between Animal Welfare and Animal Rights? It's important to know!

Animal rights and animal welfare sound the same, but they're different concepts. Here's why it's important for you to know the difference.

[Animal Rights & Ethics] A Texas Rancher Cloned Deer For Years. Some Lawmakers Want To Legalize It.

The Lone Star State has long muddled the line between hunting and farming.  Now cloning may help game ranches breed big buck$. A Republican legislator wants to legalize deer cloning, and is accusing Texas wildlife officials of using the COVID-19 pandemic to undermine a breeder’s attempts to spawn big buck$. In a state that often blurs the distinction between hunting and farming, many game ranches have looked to science ― from supplemental protein to artificial insemination ― to grow bigger game for the deep-pocketed customers willing to pay well over $10,000 to shoot them. The proposed law, from state Rep. Matt Krause of Fort Worth, would legalize cloning to help in that endeavor. But the prospect of commercial deer cloning has raised concern from wildlife officials, who say a rancher cloned and sold deer for years without the state’s knowledge or authorization. Krause filed the bill on behalf of Jason Abraham of Canadian, Texas, who told HuffPost he has cloned somewhere between 35 a

[Activism] Huge PETA Win! Taiwan Ends Drowning, Electroshock Tests on Animals

In a groundbreaking PETA victory, horrific drowning and electroshock tests on countless animals will no longer be conducted in Taiwan by companies wanting to make anti-fatigue marketing claims that consuming their food or beverage products may help consumers be less tired after exercising. After receiving PETA’s detailed scientific critique and more than 73,000 e-mails from PETA supporters during a public comment period for the agency’s draft  anti-fatigue health claim regulation , the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) has  finalized the regulation and removed animal testing  as an option for companies to pursue. Now, only safe and effective human tests are required and allowed. We need your help now to push for an end to animal testing for a different TFDA draft regulation—this one concerning joint-protection health claims for marketing foods and beverages to consumers.  The agency has proposed allowing gruesome, misleading experiments that would chemically or surgically in
