[Ethics] Animal Rights Protestors Swamp McDonalds Across the UK

Animal Rebellion protestors launched a petition as part of the group's calls for McDonald's to go entirely plant-based by 2025: 'it doesn't end today' is their call. Mc Donald’s closes its doors in many of its restaurants, following our action this weekend. We are calling on McDonald’s to commit to become a fully plant based fast food chain, by 2025. They could lead the way with this. They have an opportunity to become the world’s first fast food chain to serve only sustainable meals. We don’t have long. We certainly don’t have long to prevent the worst excesses of the climate crisis hitting us. Governments are doing nothing. Corporations could lead the way. McDonald’s say they plan to introduce a new range of plant-based meat alternatives from 2021, but that doesn’t go far enough. We are in a climate and ecological emergency and that demands urgent changes to business as usual. Food production alone is set to push Earth past 1.5°C of warming according to an Oxford

[Activism] Want more answers after watching Seaspiracy?

A new documentary 'On the Frontlines' provides a deeper dive into the corrupt global fishing industry exposed by Seaspiracy. While Seaspiracy sparked debate and fueled much-needed interest in the health of the oceans, On the Frontlines shares Sea Shepherd’s work on the frontlines to help save the oceans. “Movies like Seaspiracy; short films like [On the Frontlines] are so important because the issues facing the oceans happen because the oceans are out of sight and out of mind for most people,” Sea Shepherd Director of Campaigns Peter Hammarstedt said.  “I think it was Sir Paul McCartney who said, ‘If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everybody would be vegetarian.’ Now imagine if those slaughterhouses were dozens or hundreds or even thousands of nautical miles offshore only accessible by boat. Sea Shepherd’s campaigns allow access to those slaughterhouses.”

[Vegan] Are Petroleum Products Vegan?

These days it seems that the list of things that are ‘not vegan’ is never-ending, with animal products finding their way into all kinds of things from McDonald’s fries to hardback books ! But is petrol vegan? Can you be vegan if you drive a petrol car? What about gasoline, petroleum, crude oil and diesel? This article explains all. Petrol (which is also known as gasoline) is vegan. It’s made from microorganisms that lived millions of years ago and no animals are purposefully harmed in the production of petrol. Some vegans may choose to avoid petrol because petroleum products are damaging to the environment and this, in turn, harms animal life. What is petrol made of? Petrol is a clear flammable liquid that is made from crude oil (also known as petroleum) and several chemical additives like alcohols, ethers and stabilisers. While the additives in petrol are not animal-derived, people may wonder about crude oil, believing that it is made from dead animals. There is even a myth that oil

[Health] Is Coconut Oil As Healthy and Ethical As You Think?

[Health] Presumed Safety of Probiotics Questioned - Michael Greger M.D.

Written By  Michael Greger M.D. FACLM  on  May 11th, 2021 In certain medical conditions, probiotic supplements may actually make things worse. If you’ve ever made sauerkraut at home, you know you don’t have to add any kind of starter bacteria to get it to ferment, because the lactic acid-producing bacteria are already present on the cabbage leaves themselves out in the field. This  suggests  that raw fruits and vegetables may not only be a source of prebiotics—that is, fiber—but also a source of “novel” probiotics.   As I discuss in my video  Culture Shock: Questioning the Efficacy and Safety of Probiotics , researchers have since  worked  on characterizing these bacterial communities and  found  two interesting results. First, “the communities on each produce type were significantly distinct from one another.” Indeed, the tree fruits harbor different bacteria than veggies on the ground, and grapes and mushrooms seem to be off in their own little world. So, if these bugs do indeed tu
